Liverpool legend ‘worried’ about Man Utd; claims only two things can ‘halt their progress’

Liverpool legend worried about Man Utd

Liverpool legend Danny Murphy has admitted that he is “worried” about Manchester United as he feels Erik ten Hag’s side can win a treble this season.

Man Utd ended their trophy drought last weekend as they beat Newcastle United 2-0 in the final of the Carabao Cup.

The Red Devils will not be stopping there as they are still fighting for accolades on three fronts. They face West Ham United in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

They are in the last-16 stage of the Europa League after they beat FC Barcelona over two legs to advance in the competition.

Ten Hag’s side also have an outside chance of winning the Premier League. They are third and just eight points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.

Murphy thinks Man Utd are well-placed to win a treble this season. He has hinted that “bad injuries” to Casemiro or Marcus Rashford are the only things that could “half their progress”.

“I’m a tad worried they could do really well this season and I mean that from my Liverpool head. For the Premier League, it’s great that they’re back.” Murphy told talkSPORT.

“They’re favourites for the Europa League for a reason when you look at the other teams. FA Cup, they could end up winning that. It’s not beyond them, there’s only really Manchester City left. The way they’re playing you’d only fancy City to have a real chance of beating them.

“Even a treble, I think that they could do it. They might not but they’ve done it before.

“Winning trophies and winning games creates confidence. The way they’re playing at the moment, what’s going to stop it?

“What’s going to halt their progress? Probably an injury, a bad one to Casemiro or Marcus Rashford.”

Ten Hag thinks his Man Utd players are “really ambitious” and capable of battling for a couple more trophies this season.

“Yes I think so,” Ten Hag told reporters. “Until now, we have managed it quite well and I think we can do it also until the end of the season. Except for Anthony Martial, the availability from all the players is there.

“First, mentally – they are really ambitious, that is one thing and that gives them energy. Second, we have the type of players who can handle the load, the physical load.

“In my experience in Ajax, when we dropped out of Europe the levels went down, and when you are in it gives energy.”
