In Gotham FC’s final week of training camp at IMG Academy, Gotham FC will host the club’s third preseason scrimmage during a 90-minute, closed-door friendly match against the Chicago Red Stars on Thursday, March 2 at 11 a.m. EST.
“The most exciting thing (during camp) has been seeing how the players are taking in our style and system and seeing how they are working together to do their best to be a successful team this year,” said Gotham FC Head Coach Juan Carlos Amorós. “This has been a fantastic environment, whether we have been on the pitch or off the pitch. We’ve been here for almost a month, and I’ve told them how impressed I have been with how they have supported each other. They have been outstanding.”
Friday is the club’s final day at IMG Academy before returning home for three weeks of training in preparation for Gotham FC’s 2023 regular season opener on March 26 at Angel City FC and the highly anticipated home opener against OL Reign on April 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Red Bull Arena. The friendly against Chicago on Thursday will be Gotham FC’s first game of the preseason with the entire complement of players returning from national team duty.
“These last few days have been about (the national team players) adapting to the way we do things, and trying to get them up to speed with our style,” said Amorós. “They are all very intelligent players and they have caught up quickly. They are ready to compete.
In the win over FSU, Gotham FC’s goals were scored by Purce, Sinead Farrelly, Victoria Pickett, and Taylor Smith.
The preseason scrimmage between Gotham FC and the Chicago Red Stars on Thursday is closed to the media and the public. Gotham FC Communications will provide photos, videos and head coach soundbytes following the match.
