Chattanooga FC News Release

Chattanooga FC looks to extend its three-match unbeaten run as it faces Crown Legacy FC for the first time on Wednesday, May 15th at 7:30 p.m. ET at the Sportsplex at Matthews.

Chattanooga Football Club (5-1-3D, 2SOW, 20 pts – 1st in overall league standings) looks to extend its build on its lead at the top of the MLS NEXT Pro standings when it travels to Crown Legacy FC (2-3-3D, 2SOW, 11 pts – 11th in East, 3rd in Southeast) on Wednesday, May 15th at 7:30 p.m. ET at the Sportsplex at Matthews in Matthews, North Carolina.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides.

Both sides were victorious in 2-1 scorelines in Matchweek 9. CFC defeated Inter Miami II for the second time this season thanks to a late Mehdi Ouamri wonder goal, while Crown Legacy held off New England Revolution II at home.

Coach’s Corner

Sporting Director and Head Coach Rod Underwood previewed the matchup with Crown Legacy.

“I expect the same from Crown; they have good quality,” said Underwood. “They have players who are fighting for a first-team contract, which increases the intensity. They have an idea and a way they want to play. We expect a very difficult match. We’re not expecting anything less than that.”

On improvements he wants to see coming out of the Inter Miami II victory:

“There’s a bunch of things. We want to improve on our identity-which is the ball, how we press, how we defend-and we want to get better in the attacking areas in terms of chance creation and how we can be more aggressive with the ball in the right spots on the field.”

Know the Opponent

Crown Legacy had a slow start to the season, but after a winless run of five matches, a victory at New York City FC II on April 28th turned fortunes around. Two weeks later, a second win of the season came with narrow victory at home to New England Revolution II.

The club joined MLS NEXT Pro last season in 2023 and are coached by Portugal native Jose Tavares. Tavares moved to Charlotte after spending extensive time at FC Porto.

Midfielder Aron John leads the team in scoring with three goals, followed closely behind by Jonathan Nyandjo and Nick Scardina (two each). Cameron Duke, the aforementioned John and Scardina, and Tyger Smalls have all provided two assists each.
