Kane Feeling 'Surreal' After Breaking Record in Spurs Win Over City

Harry Kane has described breaking Tottenham’s all-time goal scoring record in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Manchester City as “surreal”.

Kane scored the winner in the 17th minute, moving him to 267 career goals for Spurs and past Jimmy Greaves for the outright most for the club. Greaves’ record has stood since 1970.

The Spurs striker is an academy graduate and, at 29, may have many more goals to come with the club.

“It is quite surreal,” Kane said. “Just a magical feeling to do it here, in front of the home fans and to win the game. It was everything I dreamed about.

“I have spoken about doing it over the last couple of weeks and I wanted to do it at this special place and in front of these amazing fans.

“I have been here since I was 11 years old, a lot of hard work, sacrifice and dedication.

“Just a surreal moment and hard to take it all in now. I am sure when I am a bit older and looking back on my career, it will be something I look back on extremely proud of. To do it in front of my family and friends was incredible.

“To do it in a big game, against a really good side, in an important moment in our season, I couldn’t ask for any more.”

Kane debuted for Tottenham in Europe in the 2011-12 season, but became a regular goal scorer in the 2014-15 Premier League campaign, after numerous loan spells in lower divisions.

The England forward, who has 80 caps and 53 international goals to his name, has won the Premier League’s Golden Boot three times and was voted the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year in 2016-17.

He also won the FIFA World Cup Golden Boot in 2018, is a two-time Tottenham Player of the Year.
