Guardiola Not Drawn on Man City's Missed Opportunity

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola wouldn’t be drawn on a missed opportunity to close the gap on leaders Arsenal after his side went down 1-0 to Tottenham on Sunday.

City were beaten by Spurs after Harry Kane’s 15th-minute goal, meaning the champions missed the chance to move within two points of Arsenal after their 1-0 loss to Everton on Saturday.

The Gunners also have a game in hand, while third-placed Manchester United were the big winners of the weekend, overtaking Newcastle and closing within three points of City with their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

“Those are big adjectives,” Guardiola said when asked about an opportunity missed.

“It is football, they (Arsenal) drop and there was a good opportunity but we knew how difficult it was in this stadium.”

City had 15-12 shots including 5-3 on target, while they also had more possession at 65 per cent but couldn’t find an avenue to goal.

“We started really well, they didn’t cross halfway, or just once and we concede a goal, like happened two weeks ago,” he said.

“A well organised team, physical, we can’t expect to create a lot of chances. When we lose balls in transitions it is more difficult.

“It was good, we created chances and it was difficult. Most of the time to come here, we are not able to win the game – it is not easy to play them and these type of games we have to try and do the situation. The intention is there.”
