Agent reveals Moises Caicedo’s concern after Brighton blocked major £75m transfer to Gunners

Arsenal target Caicedo

One of Moises Caicedo’s agents has revealed that they are concerned that he may never get a move to Arsenal or Chelsea after Brighton refused to let him go.

Caicedo was the subject of significant transfer interest during the winter transfer window. Chelsea were the first ones to move for him as they had a £55m bid rejected.

Arsenal later joined the race to sign the Ecuador international and they went as high as £75m with their proposals.

The midfielder tried to push through the transfer as he stated via social media that he wanted Brighton to accept Arsenal’s money.

“I am grateful to Mr. [Tony] Bloom and Brighton for giving me the chance to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them,” Caicedo wrote on Instagram.

“I always play football with a smile and with heart.

“I am the youngest of 10 siblings from a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo in Ecuador. My dream always to be the most decorated player in the history of Ecuador.

“I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful.

“The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity.”

Now Manuel Sierra (one of Caicedo’s representatives) has indicated that an injury could prevent his player from getting a big move in the future.

“The offers were received, you see what is on the table and Moises says that he wants to go forward, that it is the dream of his whole life, that it is an opportunity that may not be repeated in life… and we helped draft the statement,” Sierra told Marca90 (cited by Ole).

“In that statement, he expresses his wish and his gratitude to the club because they gave him the chance to fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League.

“We don’t know what can happen tomorrow, maybe he trains and gets injured. We can’t know what’s going to happen.”

Sierra later claimed that Brighton were made aware of the statement by Caicedo before it was published last month.

“Moises asked the club for permission to publish the statement, he is the one who does not train and he does not go to the game (vs. Liverpool) because they decide to give him the weekend off,” added Sierra.

“Brighton did not separate him. They understand the situation and they love him very much. It was a consensual agreement.”
