Three Former Seminoles Look Ahead to NWSL Draft

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Three former Seminole soccer players will find out their futures on Thursday night at the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) draft. The draft will take place at 6 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia and can be seen on CBS Sports Network, Paramount+ and CBS Sports HQ. Live updates can also be found at https://www.nwslsoccer.com/nwsldraft. Emily Madril, Jenna Nighswonger and Clara Robbins are all projected to be high draft picks come Thursday night.

After being honored as a MAC Hermann Trophy finalist just under a week ago, Nighswonger is projected to be a first round pick on Thursday night. Nighswonger had a phenomenal year in 2022 and was named the United Soccer Coaches Scholar Player of the Year. Nighswonger started all 22 games for the Seminoles and tallied 28 points off of six goals and 16 assists. Her 16 assists were the second-most in school history.

Only one person played more collegiate soccer than Clara Robbins as the Seminole was a part of two National Championships teams in 2018 and 2021. Robbins played in 110 games in her seven-year college career. In total, Robbins tallied 17 goals and 25 assists while wearing the Garnet and Gold.

Madril, who played for the Seminoles from 2017-21, was a First Team All-America selection in 2021 while also being named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. In her career with the Seminoles, Madril tallied six goals and seven assists for a total of 19 points. Madril was a key part to FSU’s 2021 National Championship team and was named to the 2021 College Cup All-Tournament Team.

“Jenna, Clara and Emily are phenomenal players and people. They have left a lasting legacy on this program. For them to have their dreams realized tomorrow night is quite special,” Head Coach Brian Pensky said.
