Newcastle ‘launch huge bid’ to sign striker with Chelsea set to ‘miss out’ after £150k offer

Newcastle hijack Chelsea

Newcastle United have reportedly ‘launched a huge bid’ to sign 18-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko in the summer ahead of Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The striker has had a big job on his hands this season as he has attempted to fill the void left by Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

Moukoko has not quite managed to reach Haaland’s ridiculous numbers but he has surpassed expectations at Borussia Dortmund this season.

The teenager has grabbed six goals and three assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances so far this campaign.

This form has alerted clubs around Europe and they could get him on a free transfer as he is out of contract in the summer.

Liverpool were initially linked with him but Chelsea later emerged as the new frontrunners to sign him.

Last month, it was reported that the Blues are in ‘advanced’ talks to sign the forward, who is now free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club.

But Nizaar Kinsella of The Evening Standard has revealed that Newcastle United are ‘well-placed’ to sign Moukoko ahead of Chelsea.

The Blues ‘risk missing out’ as their league rivals have ‘launched a huge bid’ to sign him.

The Magpies are described to have made a ‘substantial verbal approach’ to sign Moukoko later this year.

Newcastle are said to be willing to offer Moukoko around £150,000 a week. Dortmund are keen to keep him but they are ‘struggling to reach his wage demands’.

Barcelona are also ‘known to be interested’ but the report suggests that Newcastle are his new most likely destination.

The addition of Moukoko makes sense for Newcastle as he would be in line with their policy of signing some of the best young players in the world.

Since their Saudi-led takeover was completed in 2021, they have already spent big to sign Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak.

All three players have been successes at St James’ Park and Moukoko looks like he could be a great asset to the club in the years to come.

Newcastle have acted calmly in the transfer market since their wealthy owners took over.

The Magpies have managed to avoid rash additions and this has set them up to enjoy a brilliant start to this season.

Eddie Howe’s side are ahead of schedule as they sit third in the Premier League after 18 games.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers recently recognised that Newcastle are “looking to build and create something”.

“If you look at Newcastle’s net spend in the last year, along with the fantastic coaching of…
