Man Utd must avoid ‘totally pointless signing’ as ex-player gives ‘very clear no’ to €100m transfer

Man Utd-linked Kane

Man Utd have been told that they should avoid signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane as it would be “totally pointless” to bring him in.

The Red Devils are bound to be linked with quite a few strikers over the next couple of months.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s premature departure in November leaves them with just Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to choose from up front.

Rashford has been in stunning form this season as he has looked like a new player since Erik ten Hag took over in the summer.

Martial meanwhile has impressed as well but he has missed much of this season through injury so Ten Hag has been unable to rely on him.

After the club’s hierarchy spent over £200m on new recruits in the summer, they are likely to sign a short-term replacement for Ronaldo on loan before they spend big on a new forward later this year.

Man Utd have been encouraged to wait until the summer to sign Kane from rivals Tottenham.

His future is in doubt as his contract at Spurs expires in 2024. But he has been in brilliant goalscoring form this term with 16 goals in 25 outings.

Bayern Munich are reportedly prepared to sign him next summer as he enters the final year of his contract. It has been suggested that he will cost €100m.

Now 29, Kane has matured in recent years as he now often drops deep to provide assists and bring his quicker teammates into the game.

This should be seen as a positive but ex-Man Utd player Paul Parker has for this reason warned his former club against signing Kane.

He reckons that Kane resembles “a midfield player” and he would not be a “focal point” for United.

“I would never want Harry Kane in Man Utd. They need to sign a centre forward and not a midfield player which is what Harry Kane is,” Parker told MyBettingSites.

“It would be a totally pointless signing. All he would do in Man Utd would be to drop down to the midfield and play with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

“I saw the rumours on social media and some people wanted him to come, but if they really do that I don’t believe that they have ever watched Harry Kane play.

“He is not a good focal point for a team and he played terribly for Tottenham against Aston Villa once again, so the answer is a very clear no. I don’t want him at Man Utd.”

Ex-United and Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre meanwhile is aware that Rashford “needs to play with a partner”.

“I think if he was to play as a nine, he needs to play with a partner,” Silvestre told…
