Newcastle ‘toe-to-toe’ with Arsenal for £50m ‘box-office signing’ in January after ‘green light’ is given

Newcastle join Mudryk fight

Newcastle United are reportedly ready to go ‘toe-to-toe’ with Arsenal for the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk with a battle expected in January.

The winger has made a name for himself this season. After initially being linked with the Premier League in the summer, it is looking possible that he will get a transfer in January.

Mudryk has shone for Shakhtar Donetsk in recent months and his performances in the Champions League caught the eye.

The 21-year-old is being targeted by Arsenal ahead of January with him being their main target on the flanks.

The Gunners are expected to be busy in January as the club’s hierarchy are looking to give Mikel Arteta’s team a better chance to sustain their push for the Premier League title.

But Newcastle have also enjoyed a great start to the new campaign as they sit third in the table.

Ex-Premier League boss Neil Warnock thinks the Magpies could finish in the top four and Football Insider are reporting that their owners have ‘given the green light to spend in January and at least one box-office signing is possible’.

Shakhtar have publicly stated that they want £87m for Mudryk but privately it is suggested that they would entertain bids far less than that.

Newcastle may suffer disappointment in the race for Mudryk though as the player has openly stated that he wants to sign for Arsenal.

“Shakhtar for me is my home,” Mudryk told Ben Jacobs. “All my thoughts are only about Shakhtar.

“In winter we [will] see.

“I think every guy dreams about [playing in the] Premier League.

“Arsenal is a very good team. Very good coach. I like the way they play.

“From my side, I can’t say no [to Arsenal], but a transfer is not only my decision.”

They spent around £120m in the summer to bring in the likes of Alexander Isak, Sven Botman and Nick Pope.

Newcastle have also been linked with Napoli attacker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in recent weeks.

It only cost the Serie A outfit around £10m to sign the winger in the summer and he has been a sensation this season.

The Magpies have been linked with a £50m move for him but Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has told the Premier League club that they…
