Sara Brocious & Sam Kroeger Named Scholar All-Region

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Juniors Sara Brocious and Sam Kroeger of Rutgers women’s soccer have been named to the Scholar All-East Region Second Team by United Soccer Coaches for the 2022 season.

These are the first Scholar All-Region honors for Brocious and Kroeger, as the women’s soccer program extends its streak to six consecutive years with representatives on the Scholar All-Region list. Scholar All-Region honors are bestowed to junior and above soccer student-athletes with at least a 3.40 GPA while playing in a minimum of 75 percent of the team’s games with elite standing as supported by playing honors such as All-Conference and All-Region awards. The honorees must also meet the highest standards of ethics and sportsmanship.

Brocious has worked toward a 3.80 GPA in English at Rutgers while earning Third Team All-Region and Second Team All-Big Ten. A consistently productive central attacking midfielder, the Voorhees, New Jersey native contributed 17 points on five goals and seven assists during the 2022 regular season. She scored game-winning goals in the victories over UNLV and Maryland, with the latter being the lone goal in a 1-0 victory on Sept. 25. Brocious has put in the 90-minute effort in 17 of 20 matches during the fall. Her seven assists this season have her career total up to 16, tied for the 12th most in Rutgers women’s soccer history.

Kroeger has accumulated a 3.63 while studying sport management at Rutgers, also earning Third Team honors in the All-Region and All-Big Ten awards this fall. This latest honor celebrates a season in which Kroeger was an offensive leader with a team-best 19 points on seven goals and five assists. Her seven goals ranked seventh in the Big Ten at the end of the regular season. Four of her goals have gone down as game-winners, including three out of four consecutive matches from Sept. 1-11. Notably, her 85th-minute game-winner capped three unanswered goals by Rutgers to erase a 2-0 deficit and beat LSU on Sept. 11 at Yurcak Field. The West Milford, New Jersey native was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Sept. 6.
