November 28, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)Sacramento Republic FC News Release

Sacramento, Calif. – Today, Republic FC announced that Academy forward Chance Cowell will attend Mexico’s U15 National Team camp starting on November 25. The invitation is his third opportunity to join Mexico’s youth program, and the eighth invitation for a Republic FC youth development academy player this year.

“We’re very proud of everything that Chance has accomplished this season, and throughout this year,” said Republic FC Academy Director Eder Quintanilla. “This is a special accomplishment for any player to earn once. We’ll be watching him closely as he represents Mexico on the international stage and are confident he’ll continue to perform at a high level.”

The Ceres native earned his first youth national team call-up in April before returning to the squad again for August training camp. In addition to his three international camp call-ups, he participated in both the June and October U.S. YNT Talent Identification Center sessions in Davis and Santa Clara, CA.

Cowell joined the club’s academy in 2021, and has featured for Republic FC’s U14, U15, and U17 teams the past two seasons. During the 2021-22 season he netted 14 goals in 15 appearances. This season, the forward has scored 14 goals in 12 appearances for Sacramento’s U15 and U17 sides, highlighted by a four-score performance against San Francisco Glens for the U15’s on October 9.

Cowell is one of five Republic FC academy players to earn a Youth National Team call-up in 2022. Other call-ups this year include U19 forward J.P. Cortez for the Guatemala U-20’s in March, defender Santiago Suarez – who featured for Sacramento’s first team in 2022 on a USL Academy Contract – to the U.S. U-19’s in July, and U15 midfielder Felix Contreras in August. Midfielder Blake Willey has earned two call-ups to the U.S. U17’s, first in August and again earlier this month.

Republic FC’s youth academy teams have each had a stellar start to the 2022-23 season, with all four teams combining for a 29-8-5 record. In 2021, each of the club’s youth sides finished in first place in their age group, combining for 91 victories and just two losses in league play.
