Liverpool will not sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham while FSG still own the club, says Graeme Bailey.
Bellingham is expected to leave the German club next summer, while some outlets have said a January transfer is possible.
Real Madrid, Manchester City and Liverpool are believed to be the favourites to land the English teenager.
Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked.
A recent report stated that City are leading the race as things stand, with his eventual transfer expected to cost at least £100million.
Bellingham has seven goals and three assists in 20 matches across all competitions this season.
The 19-year-old is currently with the England team in Qatar as they prepare to kick off their World Cup campaign next Monday.
Many believe he should start for the Three Lions, but with Kalvin Phillips returning from injury, he could be dropped to the bench by Gareth Southgate.
FSG’s decision to put Liverpool up for sale has cast some doubt over the club’s pursuit of Bellingham.
Would they be willing to fund over £100m on a transfer, knowing they will not own the club to watch him play? I doubt it.
However, it has been said that their efforts to find a buyer will not impact transfers in January.
Despite this, 90min journalist Graeme Bailey has said Bellingham “won’t be going to Liverpool” as long as FSG are the club’s owners.
Bailey reckons the England teenager will stay at Dortmund beyond the summer of 2023, which would be “good” news for the Reds as it would probably mean FSG will not be in charge when he becomes available.
“I’m erring towards I think he [Bellingham] might stay another year, as it stands now,” Bailey said on the Talking Transfers Podcast.
“Obviously, that extra year is a good thing for Liverpool. Because it gives FSG a chance to sell the club and then the new owners probably will pay for Bellingham.
“If when Jude Bellingham moves, FSG own Liverpool, he won’t be going to Liverpool. Because they will not pay the money it takes to get him. So, if he stays another year, they’re one of the teams who could benefit from that.”
Meanwhile, the Reds have announced midfielder Curtis Jones has extended his contract.
The 21-year-old academy graduate has made 81 appearances since making his debut for Jurgen Klopp’s side in January 2019.
The club have not stated the length of the contract but the PA news agency understands the player is now committed to Anfield until 2027.
