Adam Lallana has shared his thoughts on Graham Potter and admitted it “didn’t surprise” him when the manager was booed upon his return.
Potter had managed 135 games for Brighton before he took the decision to join Chelsea when they came calling.
His managerial reputation had grown exponentially throughout his time with Brighton and Chelsea decided to roll the dice on the English manager.
Brighton midfielder Lallana has shared his thoughts on the situation and how he reacted to Potter being booed by some Brighton fans upon his recent return.
The 34-year-old told talkSPORT: “It didn’t surprise me. It must’ve been very difficult for them.
“I do have a lot of sympathy for them and it’s still so raw for all the Brighton fans and all the people associated with Brighton.
“It was a bit pantomime-y but for them it wouldn’t have felt like that, it would have hurt because all of them still care about Brighton a lot.
“So it probably wasn’t avoidable and maybe it was just something that they were gonna have to have gone through.
“I think and the more times they come back the easier it’ll be and the better the reception will be – but it can’t have been easy for them.”
Brighton had the last laugh as they claimed all three points with an emphatic 4-1 victory.
The Seagulls now sit above Chelsea in the Premier League, following their 1-0 loss to Arsenal over the weekend.
Chelsea now find themselves winless across their last four Premier League matches and are sat seventh in the table.
Following their recent defeat, Potter explained: “We played against a team in a really good moment, a confident team, so credit to them. The boys gave everything. We got into a few situations in the box but we missed that last little bit.
“Overall, Arsenal deserved to win. The goal is disappointing and over the course of the game, we don’t have too many complaints at the result.
“We have to look at where the two teams are at, Arsenal are in a good moment, and have worked together for a long time and we’re in different phase. We tried to make it more of a London derby.
“We lacked quality, but the effort was there and we were beaten by the better team today. It was not a great goal from our perspective, we defended those moments quite well.
“We didn’t function as fluently as we would like. There are always two teams on the pitch, and you have to understand where they’re from, and look at where they are at.”
