Injury Round Up

Liverpool’s defeat to Arsenal on Sunday has extracted a high price from the team with a trio of players picking up injuries. Luis Diaz has been ruled out until after the World Cup with the knee injury that forced him off during the game. Both Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold also came off injured and both are expected to miss two to three weeks.

Tottenham Hotspur loanee Troy Parrott has been ruled out until after the World Cup with a knee injury. The 20-year-old is on loan with Preston North End for the season.

 


Job Changes

West Bromwich Albion have sacked Steve Bruce after 8 months in charge. Bruce leaves with the Baggies 22nd in the Championship.

James Rowberry has been sacked by Newport County with them 18th in League Two following 8 defeats in 13 games. His assistant Carl Serrant has also left leaving sporting director Darren Kelly in temporary charge.

Manchester City’s City Football Group Head of Human Performance, Sam Erith is leaving the role to join the Madison Square Garden Sports Corporation during the World Cup break. Erith, who City brought in from Spurs, originally joined Man City as Head of Sports Science, was replaced in August by Dan Lewindon, who joined from the Lawn Tennis Association as Director of Player Health and Performance. MSG own National Basketball Association (NBA) team New York Knicks and National Hockey Association (NHL) side New York Rangers.

Andrew Meredith has left Manchester United. Aussie Meredith was United’s Analysis Operations manager since September 2019 with his responsibilities on strategy not matchday duties.

VfB Stuttgart have sacked their American head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo after the weekend’s defeat to Union Berlin. Stuttgart recently brought in Sami Khedira as a consultant due to the team’s struggles to get results despite performances being much better than those results would suggest. In fact, they are now the only team in the Bundesliga without a win this season and sit 17th with 5 points and only avoided relegation last season on the final day.

In Major League Soccer, Columbus Crew have relieved their head coach Caleb Porter of his duties after they failed to make the play-offs for the second successive season.

 


Disciplinary Charges

Watford midfielder Imran Louza has been charged with spitting at an opponent during their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea City. If found guilty, Louza will face a 6-game ban.
