Cardinals Await Another Ranked Matchup Against #14 Pitt


LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women’s soccer team is back on the road as it prepares for the third-straight game away from home as they take on #14 Pitt Saturday night from Ambrose Urbanic Field in Pittsburgh.

The Cardinals are on their second three-game road trip of the season as Saturday’s matchup will be the sixth game away from home through the first 10 games this season. The Cardinals are 2-2-1 from Lynn Stadium so far this season.

The Panthers are the fourth overall and third-straight ranked opponent the Cardinals will face this season. On this three-game road trip, all three teams have been ranked and they have all been ranked inside the top-15. This season, Louisville is 1-2 against ranked opponents and all three matchups have been away from home. They defeated #23 Memphis on a neutral field and dropped road games to #7 Florida State and #2 Virginia.

So far this season, the Cardinals are led offensively by graduate student forward Maisie Whitsett and freshman defender Karsyn Cherry. Whitsett leads the team with four goals, three assists and 11 points through nine games. Cherry is second on the team with three goals and six points. The Cardinals have used a tandem in net with freshman Erynn Floyd and redshirt-freshman Olivia Pratapas. Floyd has a 3-2-2 record with nine saves and Pratapas is 1-1 with eight saves.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS

Pitt is 10-1 on the season, 3-0 in ACC play and just entered the United Soccer Coaches rankings at No. 14 heading into the weekend matchup. They have defeated Virginia Tech, Miami and #17 Notre Dame to begin their conference slate. Pitt is one of the best offensive teams in the country as they lead the ACC and rank second nationally with 39 goals scored this season. Senior Leah Pais leads the Panthers with seven goals while fellow senior Anna Bout has a team-high six assists. Caitlyn Lazzarini leads the Panthers in goal with 30 saves and a .789 save percentage. 

   

SERIES HISTORY

The Cardinals lead the all-time series 7-2 between the two schools and are 4-0 in games played in Pittsburgh. This will be the first meeting between the two schools since 2018 when the Cardinals won 2-0 in Pittsburgh. Maisie Whitsett scored the opening goal in the fifth minute and Mollie Rouse added a tally in the second half to secure the win.
