WINDSOR, Colo. – Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC is off to face South Georgia Tormenta FC in USL League One action. With both sides in the hunt for the playoffs, it’s a six-pointer for each side’s playoff hopes.
The Tormenta played on Wednesday, losing 3-1 to Richmond Kickers in Richmond. With the defeat, they remain only one point ahead of Northern Colorado, with one less game played. Entering Week 24, South Georgia had the second toughest strength of schedule heading into the playoffs.
South Georgia’s Kazaiah Sterling and Adrian Billhardt have been an effective pairing for the club. The duo has scored 42% of the Tormenta goals this season, with Sterling scoring nine in 17 appearances and Billhardt adding five goals.
Forward Trevor Amann scored the first brace and hat trick in club history last weekend against North Carolina FC. The Coloradan won USL League One Player of the Week honors for the hat trick, becoming the first player to win the award for the club.
Johan Penaranda has been a difference maker since being named the starting goalkeeper. In nine matches, Penaranda has kept three clean sheets. Including a clean sheet against the then first-placed Greenville Triumph SC in Greenville. In those nine matches, he has brought home three USL League One Fans’ Choice Save of the Week awards.
The kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. EDT/5:30 p.m. MDT at Erk Russell Athletic Park in Statesboro, Georgia. Expect it to rain most of the day in Statesboro, with temperatures in the 70s. This game, as with all USL League One games this season, will be broadcast on ESPN+.
