Chelsea chase Premier League pair for £140m as ‘daring’ rivals look to tempt Gallagher

Chelsea targets Anthony Gordon and Wesley Fofana

Anthony Gordon has told Frank Lampard he wants to join Chelsea, whose interest in Wesley Fofana is either as strong as ever or abandoned.

ANT MAN
That 3-0 defeat to Leeds has unsurprisingly triggered something of a transfer panic at Chelsea. Thomas Tuchel and Todd Boehly already had grand plans for the final week or so of the window, with a spend of £170m or so clearly insufficient.

More than a third of that sum will be needed to acquire Anthony Gordon from Everton. The forward has informed Frank Lampard of his desire to leave, with a potential World Cup place on the 21-year-old’s mind.

The Times describe Chelsea as ‘confident’ of securing a deal worth around £60m, with Billy Gilmour or Armando Broja potentially heading the other way.

It is not explained why Gordon’s head has not been similarly turned by Tottenham. Perhaps they have come to their senses.

WES MY MONEY?
The other deal Chelsea are keeping a particular eye on pertains to Wesley Fofana, for whom the Blues have had three bids rejected by Leicester.

There are mixed reports here. The Sun claim Chelsea ‘have pulled the plug’ on that interest and have switched to ‘alternative targets’ because those nasty Foxes ‘have priced Fofana out of his dream move’.

The bid in question is thought to have totalled £70m, but the requisite add-ons to lift the fee above an initial £10m were seen as unrealistic at the King Power.

The Daily Telegraph and others seem to believe Chelsea have not abandoned the Fofana deal. They are said to be contemplating a fourth offer. which would need to touch £80m – of which Brendan Rodgers would apparently ‘receive less than half’.

You can see why he’s resisting the sale.

Their story also chucks in Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha’s name as ‘a possible target’ just because.

THE LONG CON
In terms of Stamford Bridge outgoings, Callum Hudson-Odoi seems bound for Bayer Leverkusen and Conor Gallagher is doomed to fail so might be considering his own future.

There will be no shortage of suitors, former loan club Palace among them. Newcastle are also in the mix but it is West Ham who are ‘plotting a daring bid’, according to The Sun.

The Hammers are also pursuing Club Brugge midfielder Hans Vanaken, with £10m thought to be enough, while Emerson Palmieri has arrived as David Moyes’ seventh summer signing.
