Allegri Downplays Di Maria Injury After Dazzling Juventus Debut

Angel Di Maria scored one goal and set up another on his Juventus debut but limped off injured as they won 3-0 over Sassuolo in Italy’s Serie A on Monday.

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri insisted the injury concern for the Argentine was nothing major, having gone off in the 66th minute with an apparent adductor issue.

Di Maria, who joined as Juve as a free agent from Paris Saint-Germain in the off-season, opened the scoring with a bouncing strike in the 26th minute before laying off the pass for Dusan Vlahovic’s second goal to make it 3-0 in the 50th minute.

“I am not worried,” Allegri told DAZN about Di Maria’s injury.

“Well see what the tests say tomorrow. Unfortunately, these things happen in football.

“He had this adductor issue a week ago too, perhaps I shouldve taken him off when we were 3-0 up, but he was enjoying himself out there.”

Denis Zakaria also was seen limping off but Allegri said that was only cramp.

“The important thing is that we won a game that we really wanted to win, which was by no means simple,” he said.

Allegri was delighted with Vlahovic’s double, having failed to score any goals in their pre-season friendlies.

He is happy when he scores goals, but as always he needs to improve his choices,” he said.

“I am happy for him, he needed those goals.”

On the performance, Allegri added: “We played a good game, with good moments of play We began well in the second half and the game dynamic changed with some substitutes, with were useful in relaxing the side and covering the pitch in the right way.

“We could have made better use of some counter-attacks, but for the first outing it was a good match. We need to work a lot and to work hard, but I’m happy with tonight’s performance.”
