Klopp Will Talk to Nunez After ‘Clear Red Card’

Klopp Will Talk to Nunez After 'Clear Red Card'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he’ll speak to Darwin Nunez after being sent off for a headbutt in Monday’s 1-1 home draw with Crystal Palace.

Klopp had no complaints with the decision to send off their new Uruguayan signing in the 57th minute after an off-the-ball altercation with Palace defender Joachim Andersen.

Liverpool were trailing 1-0 at the time after Wilfried Zaha got in behind and opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, but Luis Diaz rescued a point with a 61st-minute equalizer.

But Nunez’s red card, in his maiden Anfield appearance, was the major talking point.

“A little provocation here and there and definitely the wrong reaction,” Klopp said. “A clear red card, I cannot deny that.

“He will learn from that. Unfortunately, he has now a few games time (due to suspension) to do so.

“That’s not cool for us in our specific situation, even less, but that’s how it is.”

Klopp added: “Of course I will speak with him. I came in and I wanted to see the situation; in the game I couldn’t see anything so I didn’t know what happened.

“I saw Andersen on the floor and Darwin walking away, that was my picture. I asked then our guys already and I saw only, ‘OK, red card’. And then I saw it – yes, it is a red card.

“Wrong reaction in the situation. Andersen wanted that, I would say, and he got it. But he made a mistake, Darwin, so of course we will talk about it. But not yet.”

The result means Liverpool have only two points from their first two games while likely title rivals Manchester City have a perfect six points so far.
