August 11, 2022 – Canadian Premier League (CPL)Atletico Ottawa News Release

Atlético Ottawa are back on the road, this time travelling to Victoria on Vancouver Island to face Pacific FC in an electric top-of-the-table battle (KO 5 PM ET, live on OneSoccer). Having already met twice at TD Place this season, managers Carlos González and James Merriman have bested each other once already and Saturday’s winner will increase their foothold in the playoff positions.

Pacific FC will head into this well-rested having not played for 11 days whilst Atleti, on the other hand, are riding the high of their convincing victory over Edmonton last weekend.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Saturday’s kick-off.

Atlético Ottawa currently jointly occupy second place in the Canadian Premier League, level on points with Saturday’s opponents Pacific FC.

This is Ottawa’s first trip to British Columbia this season, with their second (and final game against Pacific) coming in September.

González’s team won the last match-up between these two sides thanks to goals from Malcolm Shaw and Zach Verhoven.

Despite the torrential downpour last week, Atleti walked away with three points against a spirited Edmonton side.

Both of Ottawa’s goals were scored by forward Ballou Tabla who was then named to the CPL’s ‘Team of the Week’.

Midfielder Abdou Sissoko, who won back possession before playing a perfectly weighted through ball for Tabla’s first goal, also earned a spot in the TOTW.

Vancouver Whitecaps academy product Owen Antoniuk, who joined the club on loan recently, made his debut towards the end of the match.

Pacific FC haven’t played since their commanding second-leg win (6-0) in Concacaf against Waterhouse F.C. from Jamaica on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

Alejandro Diaz, who scored a hat-trick in that game and is also top of the goalscoring charts in the CPL, recently left Pacific for a club-record fee and will take no part in this weekend’s game.

Merriman’s side has won their last four CPL games, the second best run of form in the league (behind Forge FC).

Record head-to-head (all-time): 2W-1D-3L; 6 goals scored, 8 goals conceded
