Atlético Ottawa returned home on Sunday afternoon to host FC Edmonton, looking to bounce back from a disappointing result their last time out. If the weather played tricks on everyone at TD Place that day, including torrential downpours and lightening-triggered weather delays, it would not be enough to stop the singing (in the rain) and dancing as Ottawa pulled together a 2-1 win over the Eddies in front of 6,574 delighted, albeit soaked, fans.

KEY MOMENTS

Both teams had to contend with delays in their routines, both before their official warm-ups and at halftime, as there were lightning strikes in the stadium’s surrounding areas. Fortunately, once on the field, play was able to proceed as usual for each of the two halves.

Atlético Ottawa continue to display mental fortitude, having not lost two consecutive matches all season.

With this win, Ottawa is now tied in second position in the CPL standings (advantage to Pacific FC due to goal differential) with a record of 9W-5D-4L on the season.

Ballou Tabla scored both of Ottawa’s goals Sunday, bringing his tally to five, tied with Ollie Basset as co-scoring leaders for the team.

Defender Miguel Acosta continues to lead the league in tacles (37) while GK Nathan Ingham leads the golden glove race with 7 clean sheets.

Head Coach Carlos González- aka the man with the plan – reassured a number of fans worried about U21 minutes by entrusting Zakaria Bahous (87 min), Zachary Roy (62 min) and newcomer Owen Antoniuk (3 min) with some important playing time.

Of note: U SPORTS draftee Jose Cuhna has left the team this weekend to return to Cape Breton University in preparation for his 2022-2023 U SPORTS season.

Ottawa will head out to the West Coast for a matchup against Pacific FC next Saturday (5PM ET, live on OneSoccer) before returning to TD Place to host Halifax Wanderers on August 17th.
