Chelsea duo on Madrid shortlist as Benzema backup as Serie A boss gives ‘green light’ to compete

'This is it' – Werner reflects on goal in Chelsea exit to Real Madrid

Real Madrid have reportedly put two Chelsea forwards on their transfer shortlist this summer, while Juventus boss Max Allegri has given the ‘green light’ to chase one of them.

We won’t keep you waiting, the two players in question are Timo Werner and Armando Broja, both of whom have been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

West Ham were thought to be very keen on a £30m move for Broja, before Blues boss Thomas Tuchel dampened their hopes.

“I don’t expect him to leave,” Tuchel said. “I’m aware of the offers and aware of the interest. We will make a decision together, the owner and me and the player. When he arrived it was clear he is trying to impress and become a Chelsea player.

“After his Southampton loan it’s clear he wants to make the next step. Unfortunately he got injured and there is now a lot of interest in him. Let’s see how that goes. He has a contract here.”

But Tuchel’s desire to keep him at Stamford Bridge hasn’t stopped him being named on a Madrid shortlist to be backup to Karim Benzema this season.

The Albania international is joined by RB Salzburg stars Noah Okafor and Benjamin Sesko and five further strikers as options for Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, according to AS.

Meanwhile, Defensa Central claim Madrid are also ‘considering’ a move for Werner, who isn’t in Tuchel’s good books.

The Chelsea boss wasn’t best pleased with the striker’s claim that he could be “happy everywhere” as long as he is playing and scoring goals.

Reading between the lines, given he’s neither playing that much or scoring goals, Werner was suggesting he wasn’t happy at Stamford Bridge.

In a blunt reply, Tuchel told the forward he needs to “show quality”, and reports since suggest the German boss is willing to see his compatriot leave the club this summer.

Newcastle have also been linked but Madrid’s greatest challenge looks set to be from Juventus after Allegri gave the ‘green light’ for the club to push for the German international.

Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) claim ‘conditions are being defined’ for Werner over a ‘costly loan’ move from Chelsea with a buy option.

Werner’s name is being ‘talked about more and more’ by the Old Lady.
