Arsenal urged to sign Premier League forward rated at £31.5m as alternative to Jesus

Arsenal-linked Toney and Jesus

Arsenal have been encouraged to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer as he would be a “good signing” for the Gunners.

Eddie Nketiah has penned a new long-term contract but Arsenal are still in the market for a new striker.

The Gunners were previously linked with Toney before the summer transfer window in 2021.

The forward enjoyed a strong season in the Premier League with Brentford in 2021/22.

He grabbed twelve goals and five assists in 33 outings as the Bees finished 13th in the table. Transfermarkt value him at £31.5m.

Arsenal have also been linked with Man City attacker Gabriel Jesus. They have spent big to bring in Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Ex-Liverpool player Dean Saunders thinks Arsenal are on the “right track” under Arteta. He has picked out Toney as a “good signing” for the Gunners:

“If I was Arsenal, I’d sign Toney from Brentford. I would sign him from Brentford, sorry Brentford fans,” Saunders told talkSPORT.

“He’s got rid of [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, I think he did the right thing for the sake of the dressing room. He was undermining him every day and he’s trying to build a club, young players, great players.

“I think Arteta’s on the right track. He would be a good signing.

“There are a few options and one of them is Ivan Toney. I would sign him if I was Arteta.”

Elsewhere, Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting that the Gunners are ‘ready to do everything to convince’ Jesus to sign for them.

The Brazil international is set to leave City this summer following their decision to sign Erling Haaland. It is being reported that Arsenal are set to submit a second bid for Jesus. He is valued at around £50m.

It is said that negotiations between Man City and Arsenal ‘could soon enter a crucial phase’.

Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur are also ‘trying’ to buy Jesus and they are ‘moving under the radar’. Di Marzio adds that this deal is ‘difficult’ given the competition there is in the Premier League for his signature.
