Neville sends ‘worrying’ warning to Man Utd with the club ‘struggling to get business done’

Former defender Gary Neville is concerned that Man Utd have so far failed to get any early transfer business done this summer.

The Red Devils have been linked with countless players already this summer but they don’t seem close to getting a number of deals over the line.

One of the most solid rumours seems to be the links with Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong – but there has been speculation that it has proved difficult for Man Utd to convince him to swap Barca for no Champions League football at Old Trafford.

Former interim boss Ralf Rangnick had suggested that Man Utd could bring in as many as ten new players this summer but the club have distanced themselves from those claims.

But they will need to support new boss Erik ten Hag with quality new additions if they want him to get the club competing towards the top of the Premier League again.

And former Man Utd right-back Neville is getting concerned that the Red Devils are “struggling to get business done” with other clubs getting deals over the line.

Neville tweeted: “I know early in the window but it’s worrying that United are struggling to get business done. The others seem set and ready yet United can’t get moving. ETH needs his group together ASAP to mould them. Bringing them in late will only make it harder for him! it happens soon!”

The Man Utd legend recently outlined what the Premier League club needed in the summer if they are to have a successful 2022/23 campaign under Ten Hag.

“I think, to be honest with you, I don’t know which area needs strengthening fully until we know which players the new manager likes,” Neville told the club’s official website.

“We know the areas they absolutely need to actually strengthen. Central midfield is an absolute necessity. An absolute necessity. Manchester United need midfield players.”

Neville added: “They also need a centre-forward. I know Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to stay and he’s an absolutely brilliant performer, but they need a centre-forward. Centre-forward is a must.
