Newcastle are planning to bolster their striker ranks this summer by bidding for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Hugo Ekitike, according to a report.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe can already rely on Chris Wood and Callum Wilson up front. Wood joined from Burnley in January, while Wilson was captured from Bournemouth in a £20million deal last September.

Wood is still adapting to life at Newcastle. So far he has found the net twice in 16 Premier League games while wearing the famous black and white shirt.

Wilson, meanwhile, was kept out for several months due to a calf injury.

Calvert-Lewin, formerly a target for Arsenal, will have a hefty price tag. Reports dating back to March claim he will cost £60m, although relegation for the Toffees would reduce this.

Calvert-Lewin’s transfer value mainly stems from his fantastic form last season. The England international, 25, bagged 21 goals in 39 matches in all competitions.

He began the current season brightly, too, registering goals in consecutive matches against Southampton, Leeds and Brighton.

But Calvert-Lewin was then ruled out for three months due to a fractured toe. And he is yet to score since returning to the Everton squad in January.

Calvert-Lewin isn’t the only centre-forward Newcastle are pursuing. The Telegraph claim Howe’s side will return for Hugo Ekitike as well.
