Paul Merson is ‘100 per cent’ sure that Liverpool and Manchester City will meet in this season’s Champions League final.

Both sides are competing at the top of the Premier League in a title race that will likely go down to the last day of the season.

They played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Etihad last weekend and will lock horns again on Saturday in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

It has been a positive week for Liverpool and City, who both progressed through to the last four of the Champions League after midweek draws against Benfica and Atletico Madrid, respectively.

The Premier League pair avoided each other in the semis, setting up a potential all-English final on May 28.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson is very confident that City will overcome Real Madrid and that Liverpool will progress past Villarreal to pit Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp against each other in the biggest club match in football.

Merson wrote in his Daily Star column: “I’m convinced both teams can get to the final of Europe’s biggest club competition.

“City may have had a battle to come through against Atletico but I dread to think what they can do with the Spanish team’s neighbours Real. They will go toe to toe and for me there is only one winner.

“The other semi will be harder than people think. Villarreal are very disciplined, won’t open the game up, and will make it tough for Liverpool.

“But I, 100 per cent, expect it to be an all-English final. And it’s nice how it’s all swung around so people can see the quality of our football again.

“It was an all-English final last year so that would mean two in a row, whereas a few years ago we were getting slaughtered, with everyone saying Spain had the best league. Not anymore. Now we’re back dominating again. It’s good. Premier League football takes a lot of stick sometimes. But English teams are dominating.
