Phil Foden contract affected by Erling Haaland pursuit as Man City left with ‘little choice’

Manchester City may renegotiate terms with Phil Foden over a new contract as a consequence of their pursuit of Erling Haaland, a report has revealed.

It could be a big summer at the Etihad Stadium, where a priority task is to win the race for Borussia Dortmund forward Haaland. The Norway international is available for an inviting release clause and could be the missing piece of the puzzle for Pep Guardiola’s reigning English champions.

But to sign Haaland, City will need to invest heavily. Even a club with a track record of spending like them will have to go outside their wage structure to accommodate him.

And according to the Daily Star, that will have an effect on some of their current players as well.

The newspaper’s website claims that Manchester City will have to change the terms of a contract extension for Phil Foden if they do sign Haaland to a huge contract.

But rather than dropping the figures they have discussed to offset the Haaland cost, they are expected to improve their offer to Foden too.

Given he is a similar age to Haaland, it is believed his wages would be affected by the potential arrival of the striker. Even if he wouldn’t get £500,000-per-week himself, City could adjust for the better their proposed £150,000-per-week terms for Foden.
