EPL: Tottenham 'Miracle' Alive as Spurs Move Into Fourth Spot

Tottenham have maintained their free-scoring form to move up above Arsenal into fourth spot with a 5-1 home win over Newcastle on Sunday.

The Gunners, who have two games in hand, are due to play Crystal Palace on Monday, with Spurs’ win moving them level on points but ahead on goal difference.

Spurs had five different scorers, none of which were Harry Kane, with Son Heung-Min grabbing one of the goals plus an assist, along with full-back Matt Doherty.

Newcastle had actually gone ahead in the 39th minute from a Fabian Schar free-kick but Tottenham replied to breath life into the race for Champions League football.

Antonio Conte’s Spurs have now won five of their past six league games, while the Magpies have lost three on the bounce after pulling away from the drop zone.

“It was a brilliant performance, honestly,” Conte said. “I asked my players to start again in the way we finished before the international break, and they made me happy.

Conte previously said Spurs would need a “miracle” to make the top four. He added: “We know we have eight final games. Arsenal has a good advantage. We have to try to stay in the race and give our best, to make our fans happy. If we give everything, then we’ll see what we can reach.”

Elsewhere, West Ham United stayed in the top four race with a 2-1 home win over 10-man Everton.

The Hammers have 51 points from 31 games in sixth, behind Tottenham and Arsenal who both have 54 points. Spurs have played 30 games, while the Gunners have played 28.

“It was important we tried to pick three points up today,” West Ham boss David Moyes said.

“It keeps us in the hunt for European places hopefully. I thought the players did a good job. Overall a good professional job.”
