Forge FC announced Monday the club has re-signed Alexander Achinioti-Jönsson to a multi-year agreement.
Achinioti-Jönsson, 27, has made a club-leading 147 appearances for Forge FC over five seasons (2019-23), registering five goals and five assists overall, while displaying his defensive prowess winning CPL Defender of the Year in 2022. The 6-2 versatile outfielder has played a significant role in the club since its inaugural season, being a part of all four of the club’s CPL titles, including the title-winning goal against HFX Wanderers FC in the 2020 CPL Finals.
“Alex has solidified himself as one the top and most influential players in the CPL,” said Bobby Smyrniotis, Head Coach & Sporting Director of Forge FC. “He embodies the core values that define our club and we are excited to continue building, achieving, and showcasing the true essence of Forge FC together.”
Prior to joining Forge, the native of Hittarp, Sweden suited up in over 100 matches played in the top Swedish Allsvenskan and Superettan leagues with IFK Varnamo (2018), Helsingborgs IF (2012-17) and Hittarps IK (2011-12). He also represented Sweden at the under-19 youth international level.
Achinioti-Jönsson has joined the club in Mexico ahead of its Concacaf Champions Cup Round One matchup against C.D. Guadalajara.
