Tottenham told they have a ‘good chance’ of keeping Kane away from Man Utd if they do one thing

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson reckons Spurs have a chance of keeping Harry Kane at the club if they appoint Mauricio Pochettino.

Widespread reports have indicated that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has made the decision to sack manager Antonio Conte with talks underway over a severance package.

That has led to rumours that former boss Pochettino could return while Julian Nagelsmann – who was sacked by Bayern Munich on Friday – has already emerged as a frontrunner with Brighton’s Roberto de Zerbi, Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Celtic’s Ange Postecoglou all linked.

Speculation is also increasing that Tottenham and England’s all-time leading goalscorer Kane could be on his way out of Spurs in the summer – with Manchester United strongly linked – as he targets silverware before the end of his career.

But ex-Spurs and England goalkeeper Robinson reckons the north Londoners still have a chance of keeping Kane if they re-appoint Pochettino.

Robinson told Betfred: “If I was him, would personal achievement be enough for me? He’s 56 goals behind Alan Shearer and he needs 57 to break the Premier League’s all-time goalscoring record. He already has 21 league goals this season and we’re in March, so on average he’s going to break Shearer’s record in 3 seasons time.

“He’s not going to break that record if he goes to Bayern Munich and he doesn’t do it if he goes to Real Madrid, so that will have to be taken into consideration. It all comes down to his own personal aspirations.

“Tottenham aren’t going to want to lose him on a free and he’s coming into the last year of his contract. For a club to buy him, they’re going to have to spend £90-£100 million for a 30-year-old and get three years of significant output from him.

“The next managerial appointment at Tottenham is going to play a crucial role for whatever Harry Kane does. I think if [Mauricio] Pochettino comes back in, then I believe there’s a good chance he will stay at Tottenham and he will look for personal achievements and personal records.

“He’s already Tottenham and England’s greatest goalscorer and he will get the Premier League record if he stays in England.

“Does he want to be a Tottenham legend or does he want to win Premier League titles? Being perfectly honest, he’s not going to win the title at Tottenham as they’re so far away from it.
