GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida soccer team held its annual awards banquet Wednesday evening at OAK Restaurant.
Florida’s two All-Southeastern Conference players – senior Daviana Vaka (Defensive) and freshman Megan Hinnenkamp (Offensive) – are the Gators Players of the Year.
Vaka earned All-SEC first team honors in her first season with the Gators. She started every match at centerback, playing the entirety of 16 matches. She picked up SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors after Florida’s sixth shutout of the season at LSU and was part of TopDrawer Soccer’s first National Team of the Week.
Hinnenkamp shared the SEC Freshman of the Year honor after turning in UF and SEC freshman season highs of eight goals in regular-season action. An All-SEC second team selection, she was one of three freshmen to earn all-league honors in 2023. A three-time SEC Freshman of the Week honoree, Hinnenkamp was a TopDrawerSoccer Freshman Best XI second-team selection.
Senior defender Josie Curtis is the Players’ Choice recipient. The Players’ Choice honor goes to the athlete who makes the biggest impression both on and off the field, as voted on by the members of the team. She also earned her second consecutive Erin Baxter Effort Award, which goes to a player who pushes the team to higher levels.
Senior goalkeeper Alexa Goldberg claims the Kenny Gibbs Student Person Player Award. The award is renamed this season to honor Kenny Gibbs, who worked tireless as a team manager the last two seasons.
Redshirt sophomore Sophie White is recipient of the Iron Gator Award for her strength and conditioning work in- and off-season.
The team’s top academic honors went to redshirt sophomore Oakley Rasmussen for the second consecutive year as she is the Robin Fulton & Karyn Hall Academic Excellence award recipient. Overall, the Gator soccer team placed 20 on the SEC Academic Honor Roll and turned in a 3.51 grade point average for the fall 2023 semester.
