Milwaukee Wave News Release

After giving up two goals to the Comets in the final minutes of Game One of the Eastern Conference Final at Panther Arena Friday night, the 7-time Champion Milwaukee Wave were looking to turn things around in Kansas City Monday night at Cable Dahmer Arena for Game Two; instead they fell short and lost in overtime to their arch rivals.

Final Score / OT: Milwaukee Wave 7, Kansas City Comets 8.

“Live by the sword die by the sword,” said Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. “We gave up a sixth attacker goal on Friday; we gave up a sixth attacker goal today and gave them overtime. But you know what? To come back from a 6-0 deficit on the road in a playoff semi final and score seven unanswered goals; it’s unheard of!”

The Kansas City Comets didn’t waste anytime getting on the board, dominating for the first three quarters and holding Milwaukee scoreless until the 4th quarter; that when things got interesting.

Forward Derek Huffman, a Kansas City fan favorite, got the scoring going for the Wave; 90 seconds later sixth attacker Ricardo Carvalho puts one in the back of the net. Almost 30 seconds later Capitan Ian Bennet in his return, lit up the lamp. Couple minutes later Derek Huffman strikes again, not once but twice for his third goal of the night. 60 seconds later Mario Alvarez scores to tie things up 6 – 6 and then two minutes after that Max Ferdinand scores to give the Wave a 7-6 lead. 30 seconds later Comets defender Robert Palmer was able to score again to tie it up 7-7 and force overtime. Comets midfielder Christian Anderaos hit the game winner for Kansas City in OT.

“I wish we could’ve closed it out and made it a Cinderella story,” added Oliviero. “Give Kansas City a ton of credit. They stuck with it and were better team for the first three quarters. I want to thank our guys for a great season. How they approached everyday; the resilience they showed, the no quit attitude; it’s been an absolute pleasure. No doubt we had our ups and down this season but I couldn’t be more proud to coach this team.”
