CHICAGO – For the second time this season, the Chicago Red Stars took down Seattle Reign FC, 1-2, this time at Lumen Field in Seattle. Thanks to goals from Ally Schlegel and Mallory Swanson, the Red Stars have swept the Reign in the regular season. The Red Stars move into third place on the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) table with 10 points. The team returns home to SeatGeek Stadium Saturday, April 27, to take on Portland Thorns FC.

4′ Mallory Swanson receives the ball in Chicago’s half, takes it the length of the pitch before passing it off to Ally Schlegel who scores for Chicago, 0-1 Red Stars
13′ The Red Stars get into the attacking third once again with the ball rattling around the 18-yard box until it falls to the feet of Mallory Swanson, who takes a shot that hits the cross bar, deflects down, but doesn’t cross the line, 0-1 Chicago
20′ Off a long throw in, Chicago’s Taylor Malham takes a left footed volley shot that goes toward goal, but Seattle’s goalkeeper makes a diving save
31′ Alyssa Naeher sends a long ball from her own 18-yard box that finds Jenna Bike on a run. The forward crosses the ball to Mallory Swanson who switches to her left foot to take a strike that finds the back of the net to extend Chicago’s lead, 0-2 Chicago
61′ An errant ball allows Seattle’s forward to charge unmarked toward Chicago’s goal and take a shot, but the quick reflexes of Alyssa Naeher allow her to make a one-handed save and send the ball over the cross bar and out of play
78′ Seattle’s Tziarra King takes a shot from distance that gets past the diving Alyssa Naeher and into the back of the net, 1-2 Chicago
GAME NOTES:
Alyssa Naeher surpassed 15,000 minutes played in the National Women’s Soccer League tonight. Naeher is the first goalkeeper in the league to reach the milestone.
Ally Schlegel’s goal tonight is the second against Seattle at Lumen Field. The forward’s first professional goal came against the Reign in her rookie campaign.
Jenna Bike’s assist on Mallory Swanson’s goal is the forward’s second career assist. Both were made this season and led to goals by Swanson.
Tonight was the first time since October 2022 that Swanson recorded a goal and an assist in the same match. It is the 5th time the forward has a goal and an assist in the regular season, all with Chicago.
Ally Schlegel’s goal in the fourth minute of play is the fastest goal by Chicago this season.
