Atalanta vs Liverpool confirmed team news: Darwin Nunez dropped

Liverpool travel to Bergamo on Thursday night hoping to overturn their 3-0 deficit to Atalanta in their Europa League quarter-final tie and if they do it, it will go down as one of the best achievements in Jurgen Klopp’s time at the Merseyside club.

The Reds were hammered by the Serie A outfit last week at Anfield as the Premier League side were punished for putting in one of their worst performances of the season.

That has left them on the brink of being eliminated from the Europa League and although Liverpool have a history of producing European comebacks, the fact that the second leg is not at Anfield makes the task twice as difficult.

Jurgen Klopp’s team are experiencing a tough period in their season and are coming off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

That was a major blow to their Premier League title hopes and Klopp has made three changes from that setback.

Trent Alexander-Arnold replaces the injured Conor Bradley, Dominik Szoboszlai comes in for Wataru Endo, and Darwin Nunez is replaced by Cody Gakpo.

As for Atalanta, the Italian club will be dreaming of going all the way in the Europa League following last week’s result at Anfield and will be confident of advancing to the semi-finals on Thursday night given their 3-0 lead and the second leg being in front of their fans.

Gian Piero Gasperini is unlikely to change much from last week given that his man-marking tactics caused Liverpool so many problems.

Atalanta also failed to win their last match drawing 2-2 with Hellas Verona on Monday night but several players were rested ahead of the Europa League match on Thursday.

Gasperini has made five changes from that clash to face Liverpool with Carnesecchi, Toloi, Holm, Pasalic and De Ketelaere being replaced by Musso, Kolasinac, Zappacosta, De Roon and Miranchuk.
