Louisville City FC News Release

Louisville City FC has acquired defender Aiden McFadden on loan from Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United, the clubs announced Friday.

An outside back with USL Championship experience, McFadden will be available for selection Saturday at Lynn Family Stadium, where LouCity hosts rival Indy Eleven in a high-profile rivalry matchup on CBS. Terms of the loan deal, which is pending league and federation approval, were not disclosed.

“My mom’s favorite color is purple, so it made the decision to come to Louisville pretty straightforward. The fact that it’s the best club in the USL helped a bit as well,” McFadden said. “Louisville City has set the standard in the USL for nearly a decade, and they’ve done it with class. “All that being said, what I’m really looking forward to is improving with this group. The expectations are set for this club every year. McFadden, 25, starred at Notre Dame before Atlanta United selected him in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft. He initially signed with Atlanta United 2 and, coincidentally, debuted against LouCity in that year’s season-opening loss. McFadden got a bit of revenge in the return game versus City, scoring in a 1-0 Atlanta United 2 victory.

Since then, McFadden earned a spot on Atlanta United’s first team roster in 2022 and spent the back half of the 2023 campaign on loan to Memphis 901 FC, where he also appeared against the boys in purple in the USL Championship Playoffs.

“We are excited to welcome Aiden to Louisville City,” said coach Danny Cruz. “This is a player that we believe will continue to push our group to be at our best every single day. When we look at the attributes that he brings to our roster, he is a player that will provide us a lot of quality in the final third while also fitting in with a group of players that have done an excellent job through preseason and the first few weeks of the season.

“Aiden understands that at this club, we pride ourselves on competing with one another every day and that it will only help him in his…
