Minnesota United FC 2 News Release

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. – MNUFC2 competes in the Second Round of the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tonight at Allianz Field, hosting Michigan Stars FC of the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA).

In the First Round, MNUFC2 went on the road to face Chicago House A.C. and left with a resounding 3-0 victory. Minnesota United forward Jordan Adebayo-Smith scored the hat trick on the night while MNUFC2 goalkeeper Alec Smir earned his first clean sheet of 2024. The combination of Twos, MNUFC Academy and MNUFC first-team players helped MNUFC2 advance to the second round and earn it’s very-first Open Cup win.

Michigan Stars FC fought in a closely-contested First Round game, narrowly defeating Steel City FC by a 1-0 score in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Midfielder Niels Lellouch scored the lone goal in the 83rd minute, helping the greater Detroit-metro side advance.

The Twos will likely again line up a younger squad – sprinkled in with additional first team players – against the Stars, but the momentum of cup action will look to keep rolling for the MNUFC2 side. The Stars will seek to spoil the MNUFC2 home field advantage and advance to the Third Round for the very first time.
