Nashville SC News Release

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For the second weekend in a row, Nashville SC is facing a defending champion when the Boys in Gold host last year’s MLS Cup winner the Columbus Crew at GEODIS Park on Saturday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. CT.

Here are five things to know for Saturday’s match, airing live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV and on Nashville SC’s flagship station 104.5 the Zone.

1. Nashville SC enters Saturday night’s match against the defending champs unbeaten at GEODIS Park this season across all competitions. Just over a month into the 2024 campaign, the Boys in Gold have already played five matches at the Castle, going 2W-0L-3D (1W-0L-2D in MLS; 1W-0L-1D in Concacaf Champions Cup).

2. The Boys in Gold are also undefeated at home against the Columbus Crew in MLS competition, with a record of 1W-0L-1D. The Boys in Gold battled the Crew to a 1-1 draw at Nissan Stadium on Oct. 20, 2021, and they defeated the eventual MLS Cup Champions 3-1 at GEODIS Park on May 28, 2023.

3. Saturday’s match marks the second time in the last week that Nashville SC has faced off against a defending MLS champ. Last Saturday, the Boys in Gold were in Los Angeles taking on 2023’s Western Conference winner LAFC.

4. In addition to scoring a goal-a-piece for the Boys in Gold against the Columbus Crew across series history, Nashville SC midfielders Teal Bunbury and Alex Muyl have enjoyed success against the Ohio side throughout their MLS careers. Bunbury scored against the Crew twice as a member of the New England Revolution and once as a member of Sporting Kansas City, while Muyl netted two goals as a member of the New York Red Bulls.

5. Midfielder Aníbal Godoy and forward Jacob Shaffelburg are back from international duty this weekend. Godoy captained Panama (136 caps) in the Concacaf Nations League at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, both in the Semifinals against Mexico (a 3-0 loss) on March 21 and the third-place match against Jamaica (a 1-0 loss) on March 24. Shaffelburg (eight caps) represented Canada in a 2-0 Copa America play-in match victory over Trinidad & Tobago on March 23 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, where he recorded a stoppage-time goal.
