The 7-time champion Milwaukee Wave are ready to take on the two best teams in the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) this weekend as they wrap the regular season and continue to jockey for playoff position.
First, the MASL West Division leading San Diego Sockers visit UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena, Friday, March 22 at 6:35pm CT.
“We’ve got one of the most storied franchises in indoor soccer history coming into our building on Friday and we’re putting everything on the line,” said Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. “Player for player they (San Diego) are one of the best teams in the league. We know we’ve got to be great defensively, make the most of our opportunities going forward and be in tune for the whole game.”
After the game / post game autograph session Friday night, the Wave will board the team bus, head for the airport and make their way to Monterrey, Mexico to take on undefeated, 23-0 Monterrey Flash Sunday afternoon, March 24 at 4:35pm CT at Arena Borregos.
“All season long we have been under a one game at a time mentality and this week is no different despite the circumstances,” exclaimed Oliviero. “We know what Monterrey is, we know they have a great team, we know they’re undefeated; but we’ve got lots riding on Friday and have to deal with the Sockers first. Hopefully we can achieve the best possible first round playoff match up we can get.”
