Manchester United and Liverpool are set to do battle over a forward tearing it up in the Bundesliga in the summer, according to reports. 

Both North West rivals are approaching hugely important transfer windows at the end of the current campaign, but for two contrasting reasons. 

United are looking at a first window with Sir Jim Ratcliffe officially approved as a part-owner and looking to knock Manchester City and Liverpool off their perches, while the Reds will be beginning the post-Jurgen Klopp era. 

With both clubs by large shopping in similar markets, it is likely that both will be monitoring similar groups of players in the run-up to the summer. 

One of those is a Bundesliga star who is currently threatening defences throughout the league with 13 goals and four assists, but the two rivals will have to move fast with Arsenal also thought to be interested, according to Bild.

The German outlet claims that Donyell Malen has drawn the intrigued eyes of three of the Premier League’s biggest names ahead of the market’s opening after his most prolific campaign since joining from PSV Eindhoven in 2021.

Borussia Dortmund are thought to be willing to entertain any offers around the £51.3million mark (€60m), with the player still under contract until 2026.  

According to Bild, Liverpool have already tried on a number of occasions to convince the former PSV star to make the switch to Anfield. 

However, it is believed the the current lack of clarity over who might replace Klopp is proving something of a stumbling block.
