WINDSOR, Colo. – Colorado Rapids 2 suffered a 2-1 loss against Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC on Sunday afternoon at Future Legends Sports Complex.

Rapids’ First Team forward Stewart-Baynes was first to kick off the scoring for the afternoon, finding a through ball from Lewis for Rapids 2’s opening goal. Lewis managed to beat a Hailstorm defender on the left flank in the 34th minute and found the feet of Stewart-Baynes for a first time finish in the box.

Northern Colorado found their best opportunity of the first half in the 41st minute when Irvin Parra stepped up to the spot for a penalty kick after being fouled in the box. Homegrown goalkeeper Adam Beaudry came up big with a save to keep Rapids 2 up by one heading into the second half.

Head coach Erik Bushey opted for wholesale changes at the start of the second half with the Rapids 2 regulars stepping on to the pitch.

Northern Colorado stepped up their offensive pressure, forcing new Rapids 2 goalkeeper Ethan Bandré to make a handful of dangerous saves while new center backs Josh Belluz and Hal Uderitz kept the Hailstorm attack at bay for a majority of the half.

In the 76th minute, Bandré made a save on a close range shot in the box but the USL side collected the rebound and Ethan Hoard served a ball across the face of the net to Irvin Parra who found the team’s equalizer.

The match ended with one final goal from Hailstorms’ McCain Clarke in the 88th minute to round out the scrimmage in favor of the home side.
