Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig

Joshua Kimmich

Bayern Munich’s first match since announcing Thomas Tuchel’s departure at the end of the season is a testing home clash with RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena.

The Bavarian giants are enduring a difficult season by their own ridiculously high standards, sitting eight points surprise leaders Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga table. Their underperformance domestically, in addition to other issues, has led to confirmation of Tuchel’s departure this summer.

Overcoming Leipzig will not be easy, though they also haven’t been at their best. Nevertheless, they sit fifth in the Bundesliga table – enough to earn qualification into next season’s Champions League as things stand – and face a Bayern side who have lost three matches in a row for the first time since 2015.

Here’s 90min’s preview of the game.

Sacha Boey and Noussair Mazraoui both have hamstring injuries, meaning a potential return to right-back for the versatile Joshua Kimmich.

Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry, Konrad Laimer, Tarek Buchmann, Bouna Sarr and Noel Aseko are also sidelined, while Dayot Upamecano is suspended after seeing red against Bochum. If that list wasn’t extensive stuff, Alphonso Davies is also expected to miss out.

Bayern Munich predicted lineup vs RB Leipzig (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Kimmich, De Ligt, Kim, Guerreiro; Pavlovic, Goretzka; Sane, Muller, Musiala; Kane.

Things are looking better on the injury front for Marco Rose, with Benjamin Sesko likely to come back into the side at the expense of Yussuf Poulsen.

Xavi Simons, Lois Openda and Dani Olmo will carry a big attacking threat for Leipzig, who will be without the injured Lukas Klostermann in defence. Amadou Haidara may join him on the sidelines pending a late fitness test.
