Langley, BC – Vancouver FC is excited to host the club’s second annual Open Trials from Monday, Mar. 18, 2024 to Thursday, Mar. 21, 2024 at Willoughby Park, in search of undiscovered talent in its community.
“Vancouver FC’s Open Trials are a great opportunity for young players to showcase their talent and potential in front of the club’s entire coaching staff,” said Afshin Ghotbi, Head Coach, Vancouver FC. “Players such as TJ Tahid and James Cameron are proof that anyone can achieve their dreams of playing professional soccer in Canada.”
Participants in Vancouver’s Open Trials could go on to earn a professional contract offer, , an invitation to participate in pre-season camp, or an invitation to participate in additional training groups/match opportunities throughout the season. Vancouver is looking to build off the success of the club’s inaugural Open Trials in 2023, which saw six players earn professional contracts, including Canadian youth national players Cameron and Tahid. More than 30 additional players earned the chance to participate in VFC training throughout the 2023 season.
“We are very excited to offer this opportunity to the next crop of talent in our community, allowing them to showcase themselves for a chance to sign with Vancouver FC,” said Rob Friend, President, Vancouver FC.
The Open Trials will be conducted in two groups. Group 1 will be evaluated on Monday, Mar. 18 and Tuesday, Mar. 19, while Group 2 will be evaluated on Wednesday, Mar. 20 and Thursday, Mar. 21. All sessions will run from 1 p.m. PT until 4 p.m. PT. Trialists will receive their group assignment details prior to Mar. 18.
All interested participants must register online before Monday, Mar. 11, 2024. In alignment with the club’s mandate to provide opportunities within its community, registration fee waivers are available for those experiencing financial hardship or in need of assistance. Please submit waiver requests to youth@vancouverfc.com by Monday, Feb. 26. Participants must be 16 years of age or older by Dec. 31, 2024 to be eligible trialists.
