COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that the team has acquired defender Delentz Pierre on loan from Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer for the 2024 USL Championship season.
“I am excited to be with the Colorado Springs Switchbacks again! The fans and atmosphere are unforgettable,” said Pierre. “The team and staff have been more than welcoming. I aim to help the team have a successful season. Let’s go Switchbacks!”
The 23-year-old returns back to Colorado Springs again on a loan from Real Salt Lake. Pierre joined the Switchbacks near the end of the 2023 season, making six appearances.
For the majority of the 2023 season, Pierre played for Real Salt Lake, recording one goal in 1,211 minutes of action. Delentz has also made a pair of appearances for RSL in 2023 season’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, helping the side claim victories against the USL Championship’s Las Vegas Lights FC and MLS’s Portland Timbers FC.
“We are delighted to have Delentz back. His growth throughout his time here last season was clear to see and he fits our locker room perfectly,” said Switchbacks Sporting Director Stephen Hogan. “Pierre is naturally left-footed with a very good passing range, who will continue to push our defenders every day in training and games for a starting spot. He will bring another dynamic while keeping the same energy to the group.”
Pierre signed as a Homegrown Player with RSL back in early 2023 after competing collegiately at the University of Portland, where he made 48 appearances and recorded four goals and two assists across three seasons with the Pilots. Before his college career, Delentz competed for the Monarchs as a USL Academy signing in the 2019 USL Championship season, making four appearances for the side before departing for college in the fall.
A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Pierre has previously competed at the youth national team level for Haiti. In 2018, while part of the Real Salt Lake Academy, he competed for the country at the Concacaf U-20 Championship, making a pair of starts as the side narrowly missed out on progressing to the final stage of the tournament.
