Cal has added (left to right) Beau Morrison, Alex Robb and Griffin Gustafson to its latest recruiting class.
BERKELEY – The California men’s soccer team added a trio of new Golden Bears – Griffin Gustafson, Beau Morrison and Alex Robb – to its top-10 recruiting class, head coach Leonard Griffin announced.
Top Drawer Soccer ranked the class – which includes previously announced Cal newcomers, Kieran Bracken Serra, Joe Chalwin, Arseni Metelista, Alfredo Ortiz, Eli Wachs and Malcolm Zalayet – as the ninth-best recruiting class in the nation.
Gustafson is an outside back/winger from Mill Valley whose father, David Gustafson, played for Cal men’s soccer and whose mother, Christine, also went to Cal. Gustafson was Metelitsa’s teammate on the De Anza Force squad that played in the U16 MLS NEXT Cup semifinals in 2022. Gustafson also led his Tamalpais High School team to the MCAL championship in 2021.
Morrison, a central defender, competed with the Sacramento Republic FC Academy in the MLS NEXT playoffs in 2021 and 2022. He comes from a soccer family, including his father, Kent, who played at Santa Clara, his mother, Charmaine, who played at Stanford, and his uncle, Lee, who played for Stanford and competed in MLS for the Dallas Burn and Portland Timbers. Morrison also comes from a Cal family, as his sister Isabella attends UC Berkeley.
A goalkeeper who plays for the San Francisco Seals Academy, Robb and his Under-19 Seals team captured the 2023 NPL Champions League title with a 6-0-2 record. A product of San Francisco University High School, the 6-5 Robb and the U17 Seals reached the quarterfinals of the 2022 Gothia Cup, while his U13 Seals team took third place in the Swedish tournament in 2018.
The nine new Bears will join the program this fall.
