David Estrada Named New Mexico United Academy Head Coach

New Mexico United Announces 2023 Preseason Schedule

Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico United and the Somos Unidos Foundation are thrilled to announce that David Estrada has been named the Head Coach of New Mexico United’s Academy – a fully-scholarshipped elite academy competing in USL Academy. Estrada had an exemplary professional playing career at the MLS and USL Championship levels before joining the coaching ranks in 2021.


“David is perhaps the greatest example of putting others first, and competing at an incredible, elite level,” said United Sporting Director Itamar Keinan. “He is an unbelievable role model for these young men; teaching them to be better footballers, and better New Mexicans.”

Following an incredible professional career that included terrific performances for the Charlotte Independence, Seattle Sounders, New Mexico United, three Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Titles, an MLS Supporters’ Shield, and Humanitarian of the Year Awards at every stop. Estrada joined the Somos Unidos Foundation as Community Relations Manager and Academy Scout. He quickly rose up the ranks, serving as a role model for the young men in the United Academy, and helping them focus on more than just athletics.

He has led the team as an Assistant Coach, and an inspiration in the time since, and will continue to be an incredible role model going forward.
