Armada Appoints David Gough WPSL Head Coach

JACKSONVILLE, FL – Jacksonville Armada FC proudly announces the appointment of David Gough as the inaugural Head Coach of the Armada FC U23 Women’s Team. With an extensive coaching career spanning over 25 years, Gough brings a wealth of experience and an impressive track record of success to the Armada.


Originally hailing from Abertridwr, Wales, Gough joins Armada FC following a successful tenure at the University of Oklahoma, where he served as the Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach starting in 2021. His transformative impact was evident as he played a key role in OU’s best season in eight years in 2022, securing notable victories, including an impressive win over #11 ranked TCU on the way to the Big 12 Semi-Finals. Gough further demonstrated his coaching prowess by leading the program to back-to-back #1 recruiting classes in the Big 12 for 2023 and 2024.

Before his stint at OU, Gough served as an Assistant Coach with FC Kansas City of the National Women’s Soccer League. Gough also left an indelible mark on the international stage as a pivotal part of the technical staff for the English Women’s National Team. Serving as an assistant coach from 2014 to 2016, Gough played an instrumental role in guiding the Lionesses to a historic bronze medal at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Under his leadership, England claimed the trophy at the 2015 Cyprus Cup and finished as the runner-up at the 2015 Yongchuan International Tournament. His tenure concluded with an unbeaten qualification record, securing England’s place at the UEFA Euro 2017 finals in Holland as he embarked on the next phase of his career, moving to the United States.

Gough’s national team experience extended to his role as the Assistant Coach of the Jamaica National Women’s Football Team from 2020 to 2022. During this period, he contributed to their efforts to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and aimed to position Jamaica among the top three nations in CONCACAF.

In addition to his international experience, Gough founded “The ProPlayer.com” in 2018, an athlete development program aimed at providing high-performance support for aspiring female players globally. His commitment to elevating the women’s game is reflected not only in his coaching achievements but also in his dedication to coaching education, evident through his roles with the Welsh FA, UEFA, and the Football Association (The FA).
