Borchers Tabbed As CSC Academic All-District Honoree

Cal Senior Collects Second Career CSC Academic Recognition

BERKELEY – California women’s soccer senior Abby Borchers was recognized as an Academic All-District honoree for her athletic and academic accomplishments during the 2023 season, the College Sports Communicators announced in late November.

This is the second time Borchers has received a CSC Academic All-District nod in her collegiate career.

CSC Academic All-District recognitions are awarded to student-athletes who maintain a minimum 3.50 grade-point average and have participated in at least 50% of their team’s games as a starter or key reserve player throughout the season.

Borchers, a forward from Fresno, made an appearance in every game for the Golden Bears in 2023. She started in seven matches and came off the bench for 12 more to log 864 total minutes on the pitch.

She was a productive member of the Bears’ lineup, tallying three goals and two assists over the course of the season, the most she has logged in either category in her four years at Cal. One of her goals came during Cal’s 8-1 blowout win over Oregon on Oct. 19, 2023 when she converted off a free kick to add to Cal’s highest goal total in a single game since 2010.

Borchers was also responsible for the Bears’ lone goal in their 1-1 draw with Utah on Oct. 10 when she dove for a header that found its way into the net to give Cal a 1-0 advantage late in the game. Borchers additionally had the equalizing goal in the Bears’ 1-1 draw with Utah Valley on Sept. 15.

Borchers is pursuing a degree in English from the university’s College of Letters & Sciences. She previously earned an Academic All-District recognition as a sophomore in 2021 and was named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll the same year.
