Statesboro, Ga – South Georgia Tormenta FC will work with the Sport Ticketing and Sales (SMGT4533) students at Georgia Southern University to help equip future sports professionals in making sport-related sales calls.
Alongside Professor Gregg Rich PhD, the Tormenta FC sales team developed four short videos for students to watch and take a quiz on during the semester. From there, each of the students will have the opportunity to make a mock sales call to the Tormenta FC staff, where staff members will evaluate the students’ strengths and weaknesses and provide advice for growth.
“Since their inception, Tormenta FC has been a wonderful local resource for our students, with their ownership group and staff always willing to partner with our program on initiatives that enhance student learning,” Professor Rich, PhD said about the partnership. “Without prior exposure to sport sales, there are some students who can be intimidated by the prospects of working in ticket sales, and never consider the career path. With experiences such as the one now available to them through this partnership, students are providing the means to overcome such reservations.”
South Georgia Tormenta FC has had the opportunity to work with many Georgia Southern University students since opening its doors and is proud to give back to the sport management program. Many of the front-office staff members and interns have risen through the Georgia Southern sport management program, making this partnership opportunity even more rewarding to the Tormenta FC staff.
“We hope this activity will lead to Georgia Southern University students stepping outside of their comfort zones and finding a love they didn’t know they had for sales.” Director of Sales and Fan Engagement Alex Wagner explained. “If we are lucky, we can find a few talented students who are interested in securing internships or potentially future employment opportunities with us.”
Founded in 2015, South Georgia Tormenta FC is a professional soccer club in Statesboro, Georgia. Tormenta FC is proud to compete in the professional USL League One and the pre-professional USL W-League. The team is also proud to offer a thriving academy system throughout South Georgia and the Lowcountry of South Carolina. South Georgia Tormenta FC rose victorious in 2022, becoming the USL League One Champions and the USL-W League Champions.
