Stevens Signs with Gotham FC

DURHAM – Former Duke women’s soccer All-American Ella Stevens has signed a multi-year contract through 2025, with an option for 2026, with NJ/NY Gotham FC, as announced by the team Monday.

“I am thrilled for this next chapter and to join Gotham,” said Stevens. “It is a very exciting time for the club and the fans and I am really looking forward to this upcoming season.”

Stevens joins Gotham FC from the Chicago Red Stars, where she was selected as the 24th overall pick in the 2020 NWSL Draft. The forward appeared in 22 matches in the 2023 regular season, recording 16 starts, 1,307 minutes, four goals and one assist. With four goals, she was tied for most goals scored for the Red Stars last season.

“Ella is a very hard-working forward, who can affect the game on the attacking and defensive end,” said Gotham FC Head Coach Juan Carlos Amorós. “She is a great fit for our system and I am excited to work with her.”

In the 2022 season, the forward started in 10 games and appeared in 19 games, recording 769 minutes, four goals and two assists. She appeared in five matches in the 2021 season.

“We are excited to have a player with Ella’s skill set and quality join the club,” said Gotham FC General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West. “Ella adds another layer of depth to our frontline and we are excited to see her grow and thrive at Gotham.”

A native of Grayson, Ga., Stevens was a four-year starter at Duke and graduated in 2020 with a degree in sociology.  She started 81-of-91 career matches as a Blue Devil, tallying 24 goals, 34 assists and 82 points in over 6,600 minutes.  A three-time All-ACC selection and 2017 TopDrawerSoccer Best XI honoree, Stevens currently ranks seventh and fourth, respectively, on Duke’s all-time points and assists lists.
